about

I'm Dan Wentworth, currently a final year computing student at Bournemouth University. I've recently completed a placement year at Tripleplay Services where I worked in the Tools & Tech department building development tools and the automated server build system.

In my free time I go Geocaching and camping. My music of choice tends to be of the Ska/Punk persuasion, though I'm prone to bouts of electro and post-rock. My favorite band in the whole wide world is Sonic Boom Six.

I also love attending and participating in barcamps, the most recent of which that I attended was Barcamp Brighton 4. I'm currently involved in the planning for Barcamp Bournemouth 2, pencilled in to take place during Easter 2010. I am currently joint head of the Bournemouth University UNIX society, BUNIX, as well as an active member of Dorset LUG.

about my work

My work takes on two main focuses; the first is on developing standards compliant web applications using PHP5 or Python/Django, I also have Ruby on Rails experience, I just like Django a little bit more.

My second focus is on Systems Engineering and Administration, I'm well skilled in administering Linux, BSD, OSX and Cisco IOS based devices. I've been using Linux in various Red Hat and Debian flavours full time for the last 8 years. I'm currently working as a volunteer sysadmin for the Open Rights Group in my spare time.

I'm currently teaching myself C from books and sources found on the internet in order to gain a greater understanding of why things work the way they do. For a full listing of my skills and experience, please view my CV.

about the site

The site is written in Python/Django and hosted on my VPS provided by memset. The web server itself runs a combination of Debain 5.0, Apache 2, mod_wsgi and PostgreSQL.

All of the code and design etc. is developed by myself, the theme is an iteration of a slightly uglier wordpress theme I developed. Source code is available on request (see contact page).
